What is Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services

ARMHS, which stands for Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services, is a program that offers in-home and community-based support to individuals facing impairments as a result of a mental health diagnosis. Its primary focus is on providing rehabilitative assistance to help improve their overall well-being.

Distinguishing ARMHS from Traditional Therapy

Traditional therapy primarily involves discussing and processing personal experiences, thoughts, and emotions to facilitate personal growth and improve one’s quality of life. It typically takes place in an office setting or through telehealth sessions, usually once a week, for a total of 60 minutes.

In contrast, ARMHS focuses on teaching practical skills to address immediate problems and enhance overall well-being. It takes place in the individual’s home, community, or through telehealth, with the flexibility of multiple sessions per week totaling up to 5 hours.

How Does ARMHS Work?

During an ARMHS session, a designated worker will visit your home and spend a duration ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours working with you to achieve your specific goals. Throughout the session, the ARMHS worker will:

1. Help you identify and understand your mental health symptoms and the impairments they cause.

2. Teach and practice skills tailored to address the challenges resulting from your mental health symptoms.

3. Support you in applying these skills in real-life situations to achieve your personal goals.

4. Evaluate and reflect on what worked and what didn’t to enhance future progress.

Important Considerations about ARMHS

Here are a few key points to remember about ARMHS:

1. The effectiveness of ARMHS is significantly influenced by the quality of the relationship between you and your ARMHS worker. It is crucial for both parties to feel comfortable and have mutual respect.

2. ARMHS is not a crisis service, case management, or direct care service. Its primary goal is to empower individuals to handle problems independently or connect them with appropriate services when needed.

3. If you find that your relationship with your ARMHS worker is uncomfortable or lacks respect, please reach out to our Treatment Supervisor directly to address the issue or explore the possibility of working with a different ARMHS worker.

What Are The Criteria To Qualify For ARMHS

To be eligible for ARMHS, individuals must meet the following criteria:

1. Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old.

2. Mental Health Diagnosis: You should have a qualifying mental health diagnosis.

3. Goal Identification: You need to be able to identify three distinct goals that you wish to work on.
